SPARK

Spark is a visual piece created for Vákoum, an experimental electronic pop duo composed of Natalia Padilla and Kelli Rudick-Padilla, originally from Brooklyn and now based in San Diego. Their music is marked by rhythmic, textural, and tonal complexity, with unexpected transitions that weave processed guitars, acoustic and electronic percussion, and ethereal vocals inspired by Bulgarian folk traditions. Set in León, Guanajuato, Mexico, the video tells the story of a romantic breakup between two women. In a crimson-hued warehouse, they dance a visceral, intimate choreography, balletic but raw, symbolizing the emotional dynamics of their relationship: attachment, passion, resistance to letting go.

Intercut with this are scenes of one of the protagonists navigating an interior journey through memory. Photographs become portals into past moments that begin idyllic but evolve into eerie recollections, reflecting the central idea that memory is shaped by present emotion, fluid, subjective, and often distorted.

Menstruation becomes a symbol of this transformation: a shedding, a release, and a rite of renewal. As she burns the photographs in an act of liberation, her former partner rides a motorcycle down an open highway. The video reaches its emotional climax when their gazes meet in a metaphysical moment just before an accident, marking an irreversible end.
